Frequently asked questions
What counts as an operation?
One signing operation = one POST /v1/sign call, regardless of file size (within the per-modality size limit). Verification calls are separate — see the meter kinds table above.
Can I exceed the free tier limit?
The Developer plan has a hard cap of 1,000 operations per month and a $0 spending cap. If you hit the cap, new signing requests return a 429 until the next billing cycle. Upgrade to Growth to remove the cap.
Does Verbitas store my original content?
No. By default, Verbitas receives only a hash of your content and the signing parameters. We store the C2PA manifest and soft-binding index entries. Asset bytes are never stored unless you explicitly opt in to Verbitas object storage (available on Growth and above, with configurable TTL).
What does BYOK mean in practice?
With the Enterprise BYOK plan, you provide the ARN or resource ID of a key in your own KMS (AWS KMS, GCP KMS, or Azure Key Vault). Verbitas calls your KMS Sign API to sign the C2PA claim digest. Your private key never leaves your KMS. The resulting manifest shows your certificate chain as the signer — not Verbitas.
Is the self-hosted plan available today?
Self-hosted (Helm chart deployment in your own infrastructure) is on our public roadmap but is not GA. Join the waitlist at /self-host.

What happens to my data if I cancel?
We retain manifests and audit log entries for 90 days after cancellation, then delete. You can export your manifest store and audit log at any time from the admin console before cancellation.
